Watch the Sweet Windy City: Lead 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2
This second solo example is much more "notey" and is played in a style that evokes Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan and Lightnin' Hopkins. While most of the figures are played in straight eighth notes (yielding an eighth-note triplet feel when played, as it is here, in 12/8), I like to play with the syncopations a little bit by switching to eighth/quarter combos over a given beat, dropping the accentuations in different places as the solo develops. While it is of great importance to play strong melodies in your solos, it is equally essential to weave interesting rhythmic concepts within these improvised solo ideas.
