Watch the Interstate Blues online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2
The answer to the question, "What is the most popular jamming form of all time?" is simple: the blues shuffle. Just about every guitar player loves playing and jamming on blues shuffles because there seems to be an endless variety of ways to interpret rhythm parts and solos over the blues shuffle form. There are two types of blues shuffles played most commonly: the 12-bar shuffle and the eight-bar shuffle. Classic examples of 12-bar shuffles are "Statesboro Blues," "Dust My Broom" and "Sweet Home Chicago," and classic examples of eight-bar blues are "Key to the Highway" and "It Hurts Me Too." The following examples represent the eight-bar form as played in a progression similar to "Key to the Highway."
