Watch the Wilted Roses: Lead 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2
In order to enhance the country flavor of the track, the majority of the lines played in this solo are based on the country-approved major pentatonic scale, and I begin the solo with lines based on D major pentatonic (D E F# A B) and incorporating many oblique bends in the effort to supply a pedal-steel type feel. If oblique bending - a technique wherein two strings are sounded simulatneously with one string bent and the other unbent - is new to you, it will take practice to sound these bends with perfect intonation while fretting additional notes. My overall approach here is, first and foremeost, to play melodically as opposed to fast and flashy. Also of great importance is that every line directly references the chord it is played over, lending a cohesive quality to the solo overall.
