Watch the Wilted Roses: Rhythm 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2
I begin this rhythm part with hybrid picking by striking the open D string with the pick while simultaneously fingerpicking the open high E string and then hammering onto the high E at the second fret with the middle finger. The middle finger is then released, sounding the open high E along with the D chord to form Dsus2, and a brief use of a low G note sets up the switch to the V (five) chord, A. The A is fretted by barring with the index finger across the second fret, and this allows me to use the ring finger to pull off from the fourth of A, D (second string/third fret) to the major third, C# (second string/second fret). Akin to the D chord, the open high E is added to the G chord in order to sound G6. Notice the constant use of chordal arpeggiations, intended to give this rhythm part an airy flow while keeping it interesting and melodic.
