Watch the Rolling Rock: Lead 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2
The solo examples illustrated here are played over the verse C-Dm7-Em7-F-G progression as well as the subsequent F-G-F-Em-Dm-C-D-F-G progression. Throughout, my goal is to play melodically with a slight nod to the song's vocal melody, leaning on what are essentially simple phrases in terms of melody and rhythmic syncopation. The lion's share of the verse soloing moves between C major pentatonic (C D E G A) and G major pentatonic (G A B D E). Over the second half of the progression, I decided in this example to use a more rhythm guitar-type approach by emphasizing chordal shapes and arpeggios.
