Watch the Pier of the Sea: Lead 1 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 2

Using G major pentatonic (G A B D E) as a basis, I begin this solo using a very vocal-like phrase utilizing open strings, followed by the notes B and D over the B major chord, with the D note - the b3 (flatted third) of B - bent slightly towards D# in order to bring a bluesy sound into the solo. Over C and A, I switch focus to the top three strings, using hammer/pulls on the B string over C and single-note blues-type lines over A that are based on the A Mixolydian mode (A B C# D E F# G). For the second time through the verse chords, I elaborate very slightly on the initial melodic ideas, switching over the A chord to sliding sixths based on A Mixolydian. Over the chorus, i return to vocal-like lines that are based on G major pentatonic; keep in mind that G major pentatonic consists of the same notes as E minor pentatonic (E G A B D), which is the reason this note series sounds great over both the G and Em chords. I then balance the sliding sixths idea with sliding thirds over G to A, and wrap the solo up with open-string figures based on E minor pentatonic.
