Watch the Rough Shape: Lead 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 1

This solo also begins with lines based on G mixolydian, but a slight twist is provided by beginning with the b3, Bb, joined by the fifth, D, and the Bb bent up one whole step to the major third, B natural. While holding this oblique bend, I change the note fretted on the high E string in order to add melodic content to the solo. The first eight-bar section over G7 is wrapped up with lines based on G major pentatonic, setting up the switch to D7 and lines based on D major pentatonic (D E F# A B). Over D7, I elaborate on the oblique bend concept by changing the higher note in the two-string bend ala country pickers like Albert Lee and Clarence White, and then use oblique hammers on the return to G7 in the style of country pianist Floyd Cramer, a technique used often by Jimi Hendrix.
