Watch the Mystic Journey: Rhythm 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 1
With the basic third in the bass idea now moved up to ninth position, I keep the index finger fretted at the ninth fret of the third string with the middle finger fretted at the 10th fret of the second string, and then hammer the ring finger onto the 11th fret of the third string to bring F#, the major third, into the chordal form. This is played in conjunction with the open D string pedal tone. The pull-off melody at the end of the phrase is now performed on the third string, and all of the notes are picked with greater definition to enable them to sound more clearly and distinctly. Over A, I simple move the form down one set of strings while remaining in the same position and then follow up with a single-note melody based on A pentatonic major (A B C# E F#). A little Jimi Hendrix approach sneaks in at the end with the middle finger barre across the top two strings followed by pull offs with the pinkie on the second and third strings.
