Watch the Heavy Load: Rhythm 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 1
I begin this rhythm part with a G major chord with a thumbed low G root note: with the fret-hand thumb wrapped over the top of the fretboard, I can fret G, sixth string/third fret, while keeping the index, middle and ring fingers, as well as the pinkie, available for notes/chords on the higher strings. G major pentatonic (G A B D E) is used for the single-note lines and harmonized thirds that fall between the chords. In this example, the chorus is performed with descending forms played on the fifth, fourth and third strings, with the highest note in each chord supplying subtle melodic content.
