For this first example of playing an interesting rhythm guitar part over a I-III-IV (one-three-four) type chord progression, I utilize two tried-and-true rhythm guitar techniques: voice leading and common tones. Another great technique to employ is to play the notes of each chord individually in order to form single-note melodies that directly relate to the chord progression.
