Watch the Flashy Jack: Lead 2 online guitar lesson by Andy Aledort from Jam Night Vol. 1
The first eight bars of this solo are based on melodic lines built from B minor pentatonic, played almost entirely in seventh position, with a quick shift down to fifth position in bar 8. Bars 5 and 6 feature a repeated five-note phrase, played across the top three strings, that falls on different beats within each bar as it's repeated; you will find this time-honored riff in the playing of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Eric Clapton. For the second half of the solo, I switch to phrases based on B major pentatonic (B C# D# F# G#), played mostly in 16th position. The solo then rounds out with a return to B minor pentatonic while remaining in 16th position.
