Watch the Picking Workout: Level 1 online guitar lesson by John Hatcher from Fingerstyle Blues Roots
As a fingerpicker, you must be able to separate the thumb movements from your fingers on your picking hand. It's natural for us to play the "pinching" technique where the fingers play at the same moment the thumb plays. But, it's super important to get your thumb and fingers separated. A great way to start building this independence is to start focusing on playing on the beat and in-between the beet. In this lesson, we'll cover a short but effective little exercise designed to help build that all-important picking hand independence.
