Now to up the ante a little. This second chorus starts out with a train whistle lick, a cool upper-position move that resolves down into some open-position blues scale action, and a double-stop response to all that. The second line spins an A7 variation on the train whistle lick, gets into some Buddy Guy/blues piano-inspired double stops, and is answered by an equally pianistic I chord walking move in tenths. For the third line, it’s chromatic triplets over the V to IV chord before wrapping up with an uptown I VI II V turnaround, complete with walking bass line and (look out!) implied altered dominant chords.
