Watch the A7 Boogie online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Fingerstyle Blues Factory

Upon reflection, I’m pretty sure I nicked the idea for this lick from Roy Book Binder’s arrangement of “Friend Like Me” on the Bookeroo album (a record well worth checking out - along with Live Book - Don’t Start Me Talking, it’s one of his best, in my opinion). Roy plays a sound like this further up the neck, in the key of E. It sounds like he’s tuned to open E as well, which is neither here nor there for our purposes, except to point out that as you start building your vocabulary of moves, trying to adapt licks from another key, another tuning or another groove are all good ways to get new sounds under your fingers and develop your ability to work things out for yourself. Even if you don’t do it perfectly, you’ll come up with something cool.
