Watch the Mostly Major Pentatonic online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Fingerstyle Blues Factory
You can play this one with or without holding down a full E chord voicing. If you don’t, you have less to worry about for the left hand, and you can finger the C# on the second fret of the second string with your ring finger, which may feel stronger and more like how you’d finger the lick in a non-fingerstyle context. On the other hand, if you do hold down the full E chord, you don’t have to worry about accidentally brushing the fifth string with your thumb - if you do, it’ll just sound like part of the chord, not a wrong open string. So - do you feel lucky?
