Watch the South St. Pete in A 1 online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Fingerstyle Blues Factory
For our second steady-bass blues, we’re in the key of A. This chorus starts off with some Lightnin’ Hopkins-style minor pentatonic moves, which we answer with an up-the-neck double-stop move in bars 3-4. The melody licks in bars 5-6 are a variation of the opening pentatonic lick from bars 1-2, but played over an F# in the bass for that classic Delta IV chord sound, before we repeat the double-stop response in bars7-8. In bar 9, we re-purpose the first half of Rolling With Some Sixths as a V chord, re-use part of Lightnin’s Pentatonic over a D bass for the IV and then wrap with the Bobby Green turnaround.
