Watch the Small Crimson Chicken online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from Blues Guitar Fakebook: Rhythm Vol. 1

"Small Crimson Chicken" is a riff based progression taken from the tune "Little Red Rooster". Willie Dixon is the composer of this tune, but the song has been covered by countless artists. Here I'll show you a few ideas that are more on the traditional side of blues rhythm playing.

In the first chorus, we'll play a repeating riff idea over the I chord and then go to single note ideas in the IV and V chords. The second chorus will give us some double stops to make things a little more interesting. Like many blues songs, there are countless versions to choose from. Explore on your own and add new ideas to these!
