Watch the Single Exit online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Fakebook: Rhythm Vol. 2
This tune is great mix of a riff and chords. It's a basic 12-bar form and a blues staple for most jam bands. Although the Allman Brothers are largely known as a southern rock band, I know they had a problem with that title. They saw themselves as a blues band with jazz influences, as can be seen in modal tunes like "Elizabeth Reed", "Dreams", and "Whipping Post".The classic Allman Brothers period featured Duane Allman and Dickey Betts on the guitar, and I highly recommend each and everyone of these records. Easily one of the greatest American rock'n roll and blues bands, defining a whole genre and launched the jam band scene alongside the Grateful Dead.
