Watch the Major & Minor Chords online guitar lesson by Geoff Hartwell from Guitar Lab: Electric Slide

Most of the music you’re ever going to play will be some combination of major chords and minor chords. If you’re playing in an “Open” tuning, where all the strings are tunes to one chord, you won’t be able to play both major and minor triads. Some people bring lots of extra guitars, or re-tune for every song, but that’s not for me. In standard tuning you have easy access to all kinds of chords when applying the Slide techniques. This also opens your options stylistically so you can play over all different kinds of music. This example is in the style of one of my favorite bands, Pink Floyd whose guitarist David Gilmour is a huge influence on me.
