Watch the Position 1 Solo Study online guitar lesson by Jason Loughlin from Blues Connections: Minor

Our first solo will start with the first mode in A minor at the 5th fret. Our minor pentatonics for the iv and v chords will be in this position. Here's what you should review: Mode 1 in A minor pentatonic, mode 4 in D minor pentatonic, and mode 3 in E minor pentatonic. After you review them, take a minute to map out the chord tones for each. When you feel you have the solo in your hands, print out the solo and begin to label and analyze where and what the chord tones are, any recurring motifs, compositional devices, and moments of anticipating chord changes.
