The term jump blues can mean a number of things, traditionally it comes out of 1940's swing music and means an up tempo blues usually with horns. Now days it usually means just an up tempo blues. The feel is certainly based on the swing eighth note. Think ting-lacka-ting-ting-lacka-ting. Those words really lay out a traditional swing feel and can help solidify the feel in your head. Like everything in music, listening is everything. Check out classic swing and big band stuff from the 1940's on. It may not end up being your favorite music but the musicianship in those bands was extremely high.
