Watch the Boogie-Woogie Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Survival Guide: Rhythm Edition
I am going to show you two variations on the basic boogie infused rhythm. First I am going to use a bit of a Chess Records style staying fairly basic in the approach and a bit minimal. The second variation I will use a bit more of a British approach to the blues, something you might hear Eric Clapton or Peter Green play. You will notice this is a bit more harmonically sophisticated than something earlier. Not better! Just different! If you are not familiar with Chicago's Chess Records, you owe it to yourself to dig in. The Chess roster included Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry, Big Bill Broonzy, Etta James, Buddy Guy, J.B Lenoir, Little Walter, and other. It was Chicago blues. There are many best of Chess collections that I suggest you check out. It is some of the best recorded blues you will ever hear.
