Sliding 6ths always sounds good in a blues and is essential to blues survival! We can hear it on almost every blues tune and it always sounds sweet. The reason it always sounds great is that a 6th can be seen as an inverted 3rd and chords are made up of thirds. In this example I am playing the diatonic 6ths of G mixolydian (C major). We can see that some of these sound better than others this is because best sounding ones are the 6ths that contain the chord tones of the G7 chord. For example G to B is the 3rd and 7th of G7, but if we invert that interval so we get B to G we can see those two notes become a major 6th.
