Dynamics are a huge part of music, in fact I am not much of a fan of music that doesn't incorporate them. As we saw in the Essential Concepts section we can add dynamics within a line, I am doing that here. Notice how I am picking some notes harder than others? This idea really changed the way I play guitar and hear music. Early on I missed that Jimmy Page did this all the time, so does Muddy Waters and every other great player. Think about speaking, we never speak in a monotone voice without peaks and valleys in volume. Why would we not do the same in music? Especially in the blues. So we need to practice this idea to get it under our fingers both physically and mentally. Make it a fun part of your practice, you will be amazed at the results.
