Watch the Uptempo Shuffle Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead
When I first started playing I admittedly did not pay much attention to the other guys in the band, as long as they were playing their part everything was fine. As I became more experienced I started listening more to the bass and drums. As that happened I became more selective as to who I like to play with. As all that happened I realized how much I was not interacting with the other guys and therefore not making the best music I could. The blues is an improvisational music, it is the interaction between you and the band that makes the music great or not. Listen to BB, to Hendrix, to Zeppelin, to SRV and more. All these guys understood that great blues is about the big picture not the soloist. The enclosed tracks were done live in the studio, so you can interact with them on some level. Listen to what each member is playing and let that inform what you play.
