Watch the Uptempo Shuffle Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead
An up tempo shuffle is a must on a gig, it really gets the audience
going and is plain old fun to play. Now sometimes the tempo can be
demanding on our chops, as in we may not have enough to keep up!
So in that case don't try to keep up! Albert Collins is a great example
of this, he could kill a fast blues by playing very few notes. It is the
intensity in which he plays those notes that gets us going. That is a
tough lesson to learn sometimes. I hear players trying to rip over
things and they don't have Robben Ford like chops to keep up.
So in that case I suggest keeping it simple, dig into the notes and say
something of value. Think about bends, vibrato, and phrasing. The things
that truly make a great players.
