Watch the Jazzy Minor Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead
The use of octaves in this tune really add to the jazzy sound. This sound was a hallmark of jazz guitar legend Wes Montgomery. Wes chose his thumb to play guitar as opposed to a pick, by doing this he had a very warm and round sound. Definitely experiment with this because like any technique, it takes time to master. Something to consider as well is the fret hand position with the octaves as well. When sliding these around the fingers can easily lose the distance between the frets. This sounds obvious I know but it is the number one problem guitarists encounter when using octaves, I know because I still screw it up every once and a while!
