Watch the The Blues Form online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead

This sounds basic, becasue it is. We must be 100% firm on the blues form both as a lead and rhythm player. As a soloist we are crafting or improvising a solo based upon the set blues from. If we are not clear on the form, our solo will not be as clear as it could be. The changes really climax on the V7 chord so we want to build up to those moments by planning ahead. As we go through this course you will hear me discuss playing on the changes, this requires that you know when the changes occur! I know this is obvious when discussing it but in the heat of playing this concept can get lost. My suggestion is when listening to blues listen to the changes, note where they are and follow them in your head. This is very helpful for hearing the blues form away from the instrument.
