Watch the Southern Rock Vamp online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead

I know this isn't a blues but working but it sure is bluesy! I wanted to give you a vamp that really plays up the major blues scale sound and what better than a southern rock jam? This is similar to something you'd hear the Allman Bros. play, but more specifically, it's the chord progression from "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band. As guitar players we tend to favor the minor pentatonic scale by nature because it sounds so darn cool. For years I overlooked the major pentatonic scale and as a result probably sounded pretty lame at some points trying to make a minor scale work where a major scale is called for. Once I understood how the major pentatonic scale worked and sounded (very important that we know the sound) I was able to play over many more progressions.
