Watch the Rumba Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead
Lets take a look at a rumba blues in the style of Albert King's Crosscut Saw. We are going to mix the major and minor pentatonic scales on the one. This skill is IMPERATIVE for any blues guitar player. All players mix together these scales and are often unaware they are doing so, we all have added in a note or two to the pentatonic scale. Chances are those notes are from the related major or minor pentatonic scale. One of my all time favorite players is Peter Green. I came to his music later in my career and we shocked that I didn't know him. He is one of the founding members of Fleetwood Mac who started off as a blues band. Very different from the 70's and 80's hit machine we think of. Peter also replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Clapton felt that Green was a better player than him. I bring Green up because he is a master at mixing the major and minor blues scales. Do yourself a favor and check him out if you are not familiar.
