Watch the Classic Minor Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead

I am not using a pick in this study for a good reason, because it sounds good! It also allows a whole other level of dynamics to enter into my playing. I can barely think of any of my favorite players who do not incorporate their fingers into their picking. Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Wes Montomery, and Muddy Waters are a few players who come to mind who don't use a pick at all. More common than that are the players who mix it up by using both pick and fingers, to me this is the best of both worlds. I love the warmth fingers give as well as the snap we can get by pulling the string up and letting it smack back onto the frets. These are tonal options simply not available with the pick alone. One of my favorite players is Michael Landau, please go on YouTube and check him out. Then buy his music! He has a perfect and unique mux of pick and fingers plus he is a total monster!
