Watch the Call and Response Blues online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead
The most difficult aspect to a call and response blues is to be in and out of your allotted phrase time smoothly. If we are not careful we can start the phrase too early or late or end too early or late. This can sound very uncomfortable and plain old bad! It requires that we focus in on the time and be actively listening to what is going on around us. This isn't always that easy to do, as it is easy to get distracted by what we are playing. I played fairly easy fills in these examples, when you are coming up with your won, keep them simple as well. The focus should be where to come in and come out smoothly. I highly suggest recording yourself and listening back. It can be painful at times, it can also be happy making at times, but it is always instructive.
