When pianist, singer and songwriter Mose Allison recorded "Seventh Son," he simultaneously acknowledged his place in two lineages: hipster bluesmen born in Mississippi and hipster wordsmiths not afraid to mess with blues and jazz sensibilities at the same time. Like Willie Dixon before him, Allison is a working jazz musician fusing southern vernacular irony and storytelling with the swaggering gallows humor and occasional self-deprecation of the blues.
