Ry Cooder once revealed the he did most of his rhythm parts in open G tuning, relying more on open D for his slide soloing.
He had even gone so far as to have a prototype bridge built that would let him flip between the two tunings live. But here on
earth, there's still lots that can be accomplished rhythm-wise in open D. Using Cooder's combination of electric
fingerpicking, double stops and snapped bass strings can help to conjure up his sound.
