Watch the Muddy Solo 2 online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Slide Shop

In the liner notes to the Muddy Waters Chess Box, Robert Palmer emphasizes that Muddy's great hits of the fifties were the result of a team effort. Like Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, Muddy succeeded in surrounding himself with sidemen who were first rate artists in their own right, and then finding a way for everyone's individuality to strengthen his own efforts as the bandleader (having Willie Dixon on hand to provide first-rate material didn't hurt either).
