Watch the Phraseology Solo online guitar lesson by Jeff Scheetz from Blues-Rock: Secret Sauce
Lots of blues guys can do some wicked phrasing, but Robben Ford is the phrase master and is as comfortable playing the blues as he is in a rock or fusion groove. Once again listen to a wide variety of players you love and examine how it's not so much the notes they are playing as it is the phrasing of those notes.
One thing we're going over here is what I call "shifting 16ths" where we are just playing a simple phrase, but then the next time we move the starting note over a 16th. This seems simple but it will really change the feel of an ordinary lick. Try it and you will see it is a challenging practice exercise and will "sauce up" your phrasing something fierce!
