Watch the 60's R&B online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Blues Alchemy

This kind of straight-eighths groove lends itself to a tight, popping attack that's as much honky-tonk country as it is blues. To hear someone really pull those two worlds together, check out Lonnie Mack's early 1960s instrumental "Chicken Pickin'" (played with a capo at the 10th fret). Or simply proceed directly to Don Rich, who, as Buck Owens' guitarist from the early 1960s to his untimely demise (Rich's) in 1974, came to epitomize the west coast, "Bakersfield" style of honky tonk lead guitar.
