Watch the Beatnik Blues online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Blues Alchemy

That cool double-stop on the high strings, where you tremolo pick the 5th and b3rd of the chord, comes straight out of Grant Green. Green was practically the house guitarist at the Blue Note label in the early 1960s, and he made a stack of records as a leader as well. His stark tone had both a hollow, woody quality and a bright, electric aspect, and he excelled in small combo settings, unspooling chorus after chorus of thematic ideas, blues riffs and bebop licks on a Gibson ES-330.
