Watch the 60's R&B S1a online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Blues Alchemy

Earl Hooker was the proverbial "guitarist's guitarist" in Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s. He moved effortlessly between standard and slide guitar playing, recorded a handful of revered instrumentals, was messing around with a wah-wah by the late 60s, and boasted of sitting in with midwestern country bands and winning them over with his versatility and prowess. Early 60s dance-groove tunes like "Universal Rock" prefigure Buddy Guy's reworking of "Mary Had A Little Lamb" on Guy's Vanguard debut, "A Man And The Blues." It's worth digging up for a listen.
