For yet more downhome jazz tracks, check out altoist Lou Donaldson’s discography. Donaldson was a hardcore bebopper in the 1950's, but by the 1960's was releasing a string of soul-jazz LP's featuring the likes of trumpeter Blue Mitchell, organist Lonnie Smith, and guitarists Jimmy Ponder or George Benson. Say It Loud, from (when else?) 1968 features Ponder with Charles Earland on B-3, while Alligator Boogaloo and Midnight Creeper include Benson and Smith and are considered two of Donaldson’s finest 1960's releases.
