Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, and Wes Montgomery form a kind of triumvirate of soulful jazz guitarists of the 1950's and 1960's, and while each released plenty of recordings as a leader, some of their finest (and bluesiest) work can be found on other people's’ records, particular organ players. Kenny Burrell appeared on many of Jimmy Smith’s records, and a couple of albums paired Smith with Montgomery as “the Dynamic Duo”. As the house guitarist for Blue Note throughout the early and mid-1960's, Green can be heard on dozens of other people's albums, including those of organist “Big” John Patton.
