For a long time I held this notion that "jazz guys play the changes, but blues guys stick to the pentatonic scale." Well, that's sort of true, but jazz guys play plenty of blues, and blues guys do a lot of subtle and not so subtle things to mark the changes, often from within a pentatonic structure. Rippling through the V and the IV chords the way we do here is one of the less subtle approaches, but that doesn't mean it's not tasteful, and it works great.
