Watch the Sam I Am Solo online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Blues Alchemy: Post-War

Lightnin’ Hopkins, not unlike John Lee Hooker, was a prolific recording artist who laid down solo, trio, acoustic, and electric tracks for a multitude of labels over a long career. He was a hip, successful professional musician in Houston when the folk revival hit and, as Michael Bloomfield observed firsthand, the clash of expectations involved resulted in Hopkins rolling up to the Newport Folk Festival in a mohair suit, going backstage, changing into overalls and coming out to play a solo acoustic set of “country blues.”
