Watch the Cold Shuffle online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from 50 Texas Blues Licks You MUST Know
The next 10 examples
are 12 bar blues progressions in the style of the Texas blues guitarists we've highlighted. I felt
like these examples are important and indicative to the style of these blues greats.
Many of these progressions will be in the style of SRV and Billy Gibbons. The
reason is that ZZ Top and (in the early years) Double Trouble were trios. The guitarist was the
primary harmonic rhythm instrument and he had to hold down the groove. Freddy King, Albert Collins,
and T-Bone Walker played in larger ensembles where there was often another guitarist and keyboard
This first example is an A minor 12 bar blues resembling SRV's tune Cold
Shot. The chords are included in the tab. Notice how you'll be using the same shape for all 3
chords. Work on the chopping shuffle rhythm and you'll have this one nailed.
