Watch the Ronnie's Logic online guitar lesson by Matthieu Brandt from 50 Jump Blues Licks You MUST Know
Horn lines are a great way to thicken your backup part, in a jump blues setting, when you don't want to play full chords and create multiple melodic lines. It's an effective tool to split up backing parts when you're playing with another guitar player or with a piano or organ player. Each individual part gets its own harmonic space to play around in. It's important to keep the rhythmic figure you play relatively constant. Use repeating patterns or the audience might think you're soloing around with chords. This lick shows you a Ronnie Earl type horn line.
