Watch the The Other Blues online guitar lesson by Tom Wolfe from 50 Hard Bop Blues Licks You MUST Know

Another blues progression that is very challenging and takes a great deal of practice is the blues progression from Blues for Alice by Charlie Parker, the great bebop alto saxophonist. It is a progression that all jazz musicians should shed and learn. The first 4 bars are drastically different than a standard blues. The series of ii-V's that lead to the IV chord in the 5th bar are difficult to navigate. This lick offers a very basic Wes Montgomery style melody to introduce you to this harmonic progression.
