Watch the Encapsulation online guitar lesson by Tom Wolfe from 50 Hard Bop Blues Licks You MUST Know

Another type of ornamentation comes directly from Charlie Parker and was used continually by Wes Montgomery in his playing. It is called encapsulation. This lick begins with the flatted-7th of the chord and leads to a final resolution on the major 3rd. This top-bottom approach to a note is called encapsulation and is one of the primary ornamentations of bebop improvisation.
