Watch the Major Pentatonic Blues online guitar lesson by Tom Wolfe from 50 Hard Bop Blues Licks You MUST Know

The blues scale is very close to the minor pentatonic scale, with the exception of the flatted-5th, they are identical. The major pentatonic scale is a five-note scale emphasizing the major 3rd and the 6th of the scale, rather than the flatted-7th. This phrase is still very bluesy, but emphasizes the tones of the major pentatonic scale. The flatted-3rd ornamentation is easily incorporated in the lick and resolves to the major 3rd.
