Watch the Fat Like Hollywood online guitar lesson by Richard Van Bergen from 50 Down Home Blues Licks You MUST Know

I borrowed this lick from Hollywood Fats. He was a brilliant young blues guitarist, who died way too early. His real name was Michael Mann. Junior Wells gave him his nickname. Fats was the first white guitar player in Muddy’s band. He was followed by players like Johnny Winter and Bob Margolin. Fats was an expert in jump blues, with its typical jazzy lines. But he could play that down-home stuff too! In this lick both styles are combined. It is in the key of E and starts on bar 9 when you go to the V. This one - like all licks that start on the V chord - can be used as an intro too.
