Watch the Rogers That! online guitar lesson by Richard Van Bergen from 50 Down Home Blues Licks You MUST Know

This lick in E is in the style of Jimmy Rogers. Rogers was born in Mississipi. Like a lot of bluesmen, he moved north to escape from poverty and racism. In 1947 he teamed up with Muddy Waters and Little Walter. The rest is history! They were called the 'Headcutters', because they were the hottest band in Chicago, Muddy Waters became famous with his recordings for the Chess label. Jimmy’s guitar style was an essential part of Muddy’s sound. This lick starts on bar 5 of a 12-bar blues progression, when you play the IV chord. The lick ends with a change in playing position, which leads us back to the I chord.
